Liberty Energy, an oilfield services company, is significantly expanding its role in the power generation sector, particularly to serve the growing demands of AI and hyperscale data centers. Through its Liberty Power Innovations (LPI) division, the company announced a major agreement with Bergen Engines (formerly Rolls-Royce Bergen Engines) to deliver over 500 megawatts (MW) of on-site power generation capacity. This $505 million deal involves 45 gas generator sets, each rated at 11.2 MWe, capable of operating independently or in parallel with the grid to provide reliable power for high-density computing environments. Deliveries for this equipment are expected to commence in the second half of 2027 and continue through 2028.
Further solidifying its presence in the data center market, Liberty Energy, via LPI, has entered into a strategic partnership with Vantage Data Centers, a global hyperscale data center provider. This collaboration aims to deliver up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of power solutions to Vantage's North American data center portfolio over the next five years. This includes a reservation of 400 MW of power generation capacity specifically for 2027, with potential for further expansion beyond the 1 GW target. LPI will own and operate these co-located generation facilities, which will connect through dedicated distribution networks designed to support high-density, AI-optimized operations.
These initiatives highlight a significant shift in the U.S. energy and technology sectors, driven by the increasing power demands of AI. Liberty Energy's strategy involves deploying scalable, on-site power infrastructure that offers rapid deployment capabilities and long-term operational resilience, especially in markets where grid capacity is constrained. The integrated solutions, such as those combining Bergen Engines' gensets with Piller Power Systems' SHIELDX™ Dynamic Power Stabilization technology, are designed to manage extreme load transients efficiently, improving fuel consumption and reducing emissions. This approach positions Liberty Energy as a key provider of essential power generation infrastructure for next-generation computing, directly addressing the challenges posed by the rapid expansion of AI.
