Firefighters arrived shortly after midnight and brought the flames under control within about 30 minutes. The causality count stands at 9 men and 18 women killed, with over 60 people receiving hospital treatment, including the 22 in critical condition. Preliminary investigations by Bangkok's disaster mitigation department suggest an electrical short circuit in an air conditioner as a possible cause, though the official cause is still under review. The highly flammable interior decorations on the ceiling are also suspected of contributing to the fire's rapid spread.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene, reporting that a musician performing at the time described an explosion followed by smoke and flames, prompting a panicked escape. Authorities are also investigating reports of obstructions near emergency exits, which may have hindered evacuation. Victims' families are to receive 29,300 Thai baht ($880), while those in hospital will receive 4,000 baht ($120). The building housing the bar has been ordered closed for 30 days.
