Bridgepoint, a leading private equity firm, has acquired a substantial stake in UMag Solutions, a Danish company specializing in drone technology for subsurface threat detection. This investment marks a significant move by Bridgepoint to expand its portfolio in the defense technology sector, following its majority share acquisition of MyDefence, another Danish drone countermeasure firm, in 2024. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the move signals Bridgepoint's confidence in the rapidly growing market for unmanned systems and advanced detection technologies.
UMag Solutions, founded in 2018 as a spin-out from DTU Space, develops advanced drone magnetic software solutions to locate threats like unexploded ordnance (UXO), mines, and for applications in archaeology and geo-exploration. The company serves both commercial and defense sectors, primarily in Denmark, and has gained international recognition for its innovations, such as the F1Mag® system launched in May 2026. This system is designed for high-speed, airborne detection of naval mines, submarines, and uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) across vast areas, up to 6,000 hectares per hour, without endangering marine personnel.
The investment from Bridgepoint is expected to fuel UMag Solutions' global expansion and further development of its cutting-edge technologies. UMag's F1Mag® system, which extends its V2Mag® technology, has already undergone over a year of testing with naval and army units and can detect threats down to 15-30 meters below the sea surface for mines and over 500 meters for submarines. This technology positions UMag as a frontrunner in addressing critical security challenges, including the detection of Iranian sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz and Black Sea drift mines.
