Gotham FC, the two-time and reigning NWSL champion, will move its home matches to New York City FC's new stadium, Etihad Park in Queens, starting in 2028. This move signifies a major step in the club's development, providing a world-class matchday experience and reflecting Gotham FC's ambitions as a leading women's soccer club. The announcement was made on July 7, 2026, and builds on Gotham FC's recent achievements, including a continental title and second NWSL championship in three seasons. The club is also developing a dedicated training facility in Whippany, New Jersey, with renovations starting late this summer.
Etihad Park, New York City's first soccer-specific stadium, is scheduled to open in spring 2027. New York City FC will begin play there with the start of the 2027-28 MLS season in July 2027. The 25,000-capacity venue will be the country's first all-electric outdoor sports venue and is fully funded by City Football Group. It will feature custom spaces for Gotham FC, including their own locker room and merchandise positions within the New York City FC team store. The stadium is located next to Citi Field in the Willets Point sports corridor, offering accessibility via the 7 train and LIRR, and connecting the club to over 3 million additional people within a 75-minute commute.
In addition to MLS and NWSL matches, Etihad Park is slated to host major international soccer events, including men's and women's Olympic soccer matches in 2028, international friendlies, concerts, and other sporting events. Features of the stadium include The Cube, a seven-story LED gateway, a 9,000-plus-square-foot Supporters Porch, and the Five Boroughs Food Hall showcasing local businesses. Gotham FC season ticket deposits are available for $28, with existing season ticket members retaining priority for 2028. New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani were present at the announcement, with the Mayor emphasizing the affordability of tickets, which start at $24.
