Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed the investigation and stated that Rodriguez will not receive protection from her government. Sheinbaum, who previously had close ties to Rodriguez both personally and professionally, emphasized that "there can be no violence against women" and that the law must be applied. Rodriguez resigned from his position as Pemex CEO on May 14, 2026, a move Sheinbaum attributed to a pre-arranged condition of his tenure. He was initially slated to lead the energy transition institute INEEL, but his appointment was never formalized.
