Quantum Systems, a German drone manufacturer with backing from Peter Thiel, recently closed a significant funding round, bringing its estimated valuation to $8.2 billion. This represents more than a doubling of its previous valuation. The company secured an estimated $703 million in this latest funding round, with prominent investors such as Airbus SE and Blackstone Inc. leading the investment.

This funding round follows a period of rapid growth for Quantum Systems. In November 2025, the company had already boosted its valuation to $3 billion after raising $180 million from investors including Balderton Capital. Just prior to that, in May 2025, the company had a funding round that valued it even lower. The latest valuation of $8.2 billion signifies a substantial increase in less than a year.

The involvement of Airbus, an aerospace giant, and Blackstone, a major private equity firm, as lead investors in the $703 million round underscores the growing strategic importance and investment appeal of defense technology startups. Balderton Capital, an existing backer, was also in talks to participate in this funding round. This new capital injection is expected to further enhance Quantum Systems' production capabilities for unmanned aerial systems and support its expansion in the defense sector, which is currently experiencing a surge in spending across Europe.
