Shell is making significant changes to its energy trading leadership team as David Wells, its head of global natural gas and environmental products trading, retires. Wells, who built Shell's gas trading into a dominant player over his 23-year tenure, will be replaced by multiple individuals.

Carolina Amador, previously head of European gas and power trading, will now lead global gas trading. Joachim Lund will take over as head of global power trading, a role created by the split of Amador's previous responsibilities. Philipp Kassels, who was trading liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Singapore, will become vice president of global environmental products.

These changes come as Shell continues to navigate the evolving energy market and focus on its core fossil fuel business, as evidenced by recent divestments from renewable energy projects and substantial asset sales. The company recently agreed to sell its interest in the Na Kika platform and associated fields in the Gulf of America for $1.7 billion, and is preparing to sell its offshore wind farms for an estimated $1 billion.
