Private businesses in the United States added 98,000 jobs in June 2026, according to the ADP Employment Change report. This figure was below the 122,000 jobs added in May and also missed the consensus forecast of 113,000.

The slowdown in job creation was noted by Dr. Nela Richardson, Chief Economist at ADP, who stated that the hiring pace reflects both supply and demand dynamics, with people taking longer to find work and some industries facing labor supply constraints. Financial activities and information sectors saw job gains, while the leisure and hospitality sector experienced its sixth consecutive month of weak hiring.

The ADP National Employment Report, which tracks monthly changes in US private-sector employment, is based on aggregated payroll data from over 26 million employees. The report provides a timely snapshot of labor market trends. Earlier in May, the private sector had added 122,000 jobs, exceeding forecasts and showing broader-based hiring across various sectors, with annual pay growth for job-stayers holding at 4.4%.
