BT Group and Verizon have announced a new 50:50 joint venture, merging their international businesses to establish a significant platform focused on providing connectivity to multinational customers. This strategic move aims to create a more scaled and efficient international operation by combining their respective assets and expertise.
This joint venture aligns with BT's broader strategy to refocus on its domestic UK market. The international unit being contributed by BT consists of operations in various countries, including Argentina, Brazil, and Canada, offering network-related, cloud, and security services to corporate clients overseas. This divestment process was reportedly advised by bankers from Lazard or Goldman Sachs.
Verizon had recently concluded tender offers and consent solicitations for several series of its debentures and notes. As of the expiration date, conditions for these offers were satisfied, with approximately $1,857,563,000 in aggregate principal amount of notes being accepted. This restructuring may provide Verizon with additional financial flexibility for its strategic initiatives, including the new joint venture.
