Financial analyst Sarah Paynter reports on a $250,000 in-home speakeasy in Northville, Michigan, featured in The Wall Street Journal. Owned by Todd and Holly Witulski, the speakeasy was initially conceived as a "man cave" but evolved into a family-friendly space with playful elements.
The 1,000-square-foot speakeasy features a hidden entrance behind a bookshelf, a six-foot slide connecting to a ball pit, and a secret door leading to a 200-square-foot "kids' lounge." The children's area includes a flat-screen TV, disco lights, and additional hidden passages. Todd Witulski, 47, expressed his desire for a space that offered both adult entertainment and child-friendly amusement.
The project, which cost approximately $250,000, reflects a growing trend of luxury home amenities that cater to both adults and children. The Witulskis designed the space so that their three sons, aged 9 to 13, could enjoy it alongside their parents and guests, balancing an adult speakeasy concept with playful, kid-oriented features.
