Momenta Global Ltd., an autonomous driving tech startup supported by General Motors Co. and Tencent Holdings Ltd., is set to begin gauging investor interest for an initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong as early as this week. The company has already received approval from the Hong Kong stock exchange to offer shares and filed paperwork following its listing hearing on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. This move follows a confidential filing for a Hong Kong IPO in March 2026.
A Momenta IPO could raise approximately $900 million, potentially valuing the company at about $9 billion. The company plans to price the offering on July 3 and aims for a debut on July 8, although this timetable is tentative. Key investors like Mercedes-Benz, Chinese private equity firm Boyu Capital, and Oaktree Capital Management are expected to finalize their cornerstone investor commitments this week. Momenta's valuation in its most recent funding round exceeded $5 billion.
Momenta's decision to pursue a Hong Kong IPO comes after dropping an earlier plan for a US listing, likely due to increasing geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing. The company had confidentially filed for a US IPO in 2024, but that application lapsed. The Hong Kong Exchange's Chapter 18C listing rules facilitate listings for pre-profit specialist technology companies like Momenta, and the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) approved Momenta's bid to list in Hong Kong, allowing it to issue up to 43.75 million shares within 12 months. Momenta has been actively meeting investors to gauge initial interest for the offering.
Momenta's investor base includes prominent automakers such as General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, SAIC, and Bosch. Additionally, it counts Tencent Holdings, Temasek Holdings, and Jack Ma's Yunfeng Capital among its shareholders. The company's business model involves supplying mass-production advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to global automakers like BMW and Volkswagen Group, while also commercializing SAE Level 4 robotaxi technology. Momenta has previously announced partnerships, including a December 2025 investment from Grab to support Southeast Asian ambitions and a May 2025 robotaxi partnership with Uber.
