Wedbush Securities analyst Seth Basham upgraded Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) to an "Outperform" rating, setting an ambitious price target of $11, which suggests a potential upside of 65% from current levels. This upgrade comes as BBBY stock saw significant gains on June 23rd and 24th. Despite these recent increases, the stock remains over 10% below its year-to-date high. Basham's bullish outlook is largely based on the company's strategic "Everything Home" transformation under its leadership, which aims to consolidate its e-commerce and retail portfolio into an end-to-end homeownership and services platform.
The core of this strategy involves recent strategic acquisitions and integrations, including an all-stock merger with Fathom Holdings and the acquisition of F9 Brand assets, like LL Flooring. These moves are seen as positioning Bed Bath & Beyond to become a comprehensive platform for homeownership. Basham also noted that the market is currently undervaluing the company's strategic initiatives, with BBBY shares trading at roughly 0.41x sales, indicating a significant disconnect from its revenue-generating capabilities and expanding digital presence. Options pricing further signals potential for continued upside, with contracts expiring in mid-September indicating an upper price of $8.86.
Financial fundamentals are also contributing to the positive outlook. Bed Bath & Beyond recently ended a 19-quarter streak of revenue declines, reporting a 6.9% year-over-year increase to $248 million in the first quarter, attributed to a leaner cost base and reduced technology expenses. Wedbush Securities emphasized that consecutive quarters of bottom-line improvements suggest a sustainable path toward financial stabilization. Despite some investor concerns about temporary share dilution from recent asset deals, the research firm believes that the company's optimized cost structures and cross-brand loyalty plans make it an attractive high-upside investment at its current price. Wall Street analysts, according to Barchart, maintain a "Moderate Buy" consensus rating on BBBY stock, with a mean price target of $9.75, implying a substantial rally from current levels.
Driving this "Everything Home" strategy, as detailed in a shareholder letter from CEO Marcus Lemonis, are three interconnected pillars: Homeownership & Transactions, Omnichannel Commerce, and Home Services. The acquisition of Fathom Holdings, valued at approximately $53 million in an all-stock transaction and expected to close in the second half of 2026, expands the Homeownership & Transactions pillar by adding capabilities in brokerage, mortgage, title, insurance, and homeowner financial services. Fathom, a technology-driven real estate services platform, reported roughly $420 million in revenue last year and has over 14,000 licensed agents. This move, along with other acquisitions in home organization, renovations, and services, aims to create a unified platform where homeowners can manage all aspects of their homeownership journey from buying and financing to furnishing and maintaining their homes.
