Ari Emanuel, CEO of TKO and founder of Mari Group, is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire ATG Entertainment Ltd., a major theater group, for £4.5 billion ($5.94 billion). This potential acquisition would mark a substantial expansion of Emanuel's influence in the live entertainment industry, which has seen a resurgence following pandemic-related lockdowns. Spokespeople for Emanuel and ATG's current majority owner, Providence Equity Partners, have declined to comment on the ongoing talks.
Providence Equity Partners has held a majority stake in ATG since 2013, with Blackstone Inc. reportedly acquiring a minority stake in 2024. Sources suggest that Providence is now in exclusive negotiations with Emanuel's Mari Group, with hopes of finalizing a deal within the next month, though the timing could shift and the agreement is not yet confirmed. The sale of ATG Entertainment, previously known as Ambassador Theatre Group, was reportedly being prepared by Providence as early as last month.
ATG Entertainment operates approximately 70 venues across the UK, including prominent West End locations like the Lyceum (home to "The Lion King") and the Savoy Theatre ("Paddington The Musical"), as well as venues in the United States. In 2023, ATG became the third-largest Broadway owner through a merger with Jujamcyn Theaters. This acquisition by Emanuel, known for his track record in talent management and strategic partnerships, is seen by analysts as a strategic move to capitalize on the growing importance of live entertainment and could potentially lead to enhanced operational efficiencies and new revenue streams for ATG.
