Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) has successfully raised $270 million in commitments for the initial close of its Allianz Asia Pacific Infrastructure Credit Fund. This new private credit fund is specifically designed to invest in infrastructure projects across the Asia Pacific region, with a particular emphasis on South and Southeast Asia. The firm anticipates the fund's final close to occur in 2027.
The fund will strategically deploy capital in critical sectors such as renewable energy, digital infrastructure (including data centers and telecommunications networks), transportation and logistics, and environmental infrastructure (like water and waste services). Its investment strategy involves primarily utilizing senior and unitranche credit instruments, backed by essential assets that offer stable or contracted cash flows and robust asset coverage, while focusing on mitigating downside risks.
Key cornerstone investors supporting this first close include the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA). Sumit Bhandari, the Head of Asia Private Credit at AllianzGI, highlighted the compelling opportunities in South and Southeast Asia, driven by significant structural demand for infrastructure and a clear role for private credit in bridging financing gaps. This initiative complements AllianzGI's existing Asia Pacific secured lending strategies and aims to address the considerable infrastructure financing shortfalls in the region.
