Gergely Tardos, previously the director of the Analytical Center within OTP Bank's Strategic and Financial Division, will take over as the head of Hungary's Debt Management Center (ÁKK) starting June 22. This appointment was announced by Finance Minister András Kármán on Sunday afternoon. Tardos will replace Mihály Hoffmann as CEO.

His primary responsibilities will include managing state debt financing and liquidity. A key task for Tardos will be to reduce state interest costs, thereby freeing up more funds for essential public services. These services, according to Kármán, include the historically underfunded healthcare, education, public transportation, infrastructure development, and public sector salaries.

Tardos brings over 25 years of experience in economics to this role. His expertise spans macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, monetary and fiscal policy, bond and foreign exchange markets, and state debt management. Before his tenure at OTP Bank, he worked at the Hungarian National Bank, where he focused on state debt management, interest balance forecasting, private sector indebtedness, external balance, and foreign exchange reserve strategy. He was also responsible at OTP for macroeconomic forecasts and investment strategies for Hungarian and subsidiary markets, and for assessing sectoral risks. He was a regular participant in discussions with foreign investors coming to Hungary.
