Reformation, the celeb-favorite womenswear brand, is reportedly preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) this summer. The Wall Street Journal indicated that the company might file for its IPO as soon as next week, with plans to go public by July. This move aligns with previous signals from Reformation, which had expressed public interest in an IPO back in 2023.

While CEO Hali Borenstein stated in early 2024 that the company was not preparing for an IPO, recent reports from The Wall Street Journal suggest otherwise, indicating the company is indeed moving forward with plans for a summer IPO. Reformation, owned by private equity firm Permira, had revenue of $350 million in 2023 and is projected to exceed $500 million in 2025.

The potential IPO would test whether a brand built on an ethical and sustainable image can successfully navigate the demands of public markets for growth and profitability. Public filings would require precise disclosure of environmental claims, subjecting Reformation's sustainability narrative to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) scrutiny. This would reveal whether its environmental advantages are substantial or primarily marketing-driven, impacting perceptions beyond just one clothing brand.
