Mukesh Ambani confirmed that Reliance Industries' digital unit, Jio Platforms Ltd., will file its initial public offering (IPO) papers by Friday, June 19th. This announcement fulfills a promise made by Ambani during last year's shareholder meeting to list Jio Platforms by June 2026. The move comes as shareholders were closely watching for updates at the company's 49th annual general meeting, a virtual event where Ambani makes key announcements.

The proposed IPO is anticipated to be one of India's largest, with reports suggesting it could target raising around $4 billion. If it reaches this figure, it would surpass Hyundai Motor India's $3.3 billion IPO to potentially become the biggest stock market listing in the country's history. The funds raised from the IPO are expected to go directly to Jio Platforms for its expansion initiatives, rather than existing shareholders selling their stakes, as the company moved away from an offer-for-sale structure to a fresh issue after discussions with investors over valuation.

Jio Platforms, valued by some reports between $36 billion and $60 billion, operates the telecom network with over 500 million subscribers, besides broadband services, enterprise cloud, digital content, and AI infrastructure. Its listing is expected to provide a transparent public market valuation for Reliance's digital assets. The company has also been focusing on 5G, JioFiber, JioAirFiber, and AI and cloud services, with its AI strategy expected to be a prominent topic at the AGM. This IPO follows previous investments in 2020 totaling approximately $18.2 billion from global technology and investment firms such as Meta and Google.

The timing of the IPO filing has been a subject of investor speculation, especially after the initial timeline was somewhat delayed from earlier plans, possibly due to a slowdown in India's equity markets. However, a regulatory change allowing companies valued above $60 billion to list with a 2.5% public float instead of the previous 10% minimum has made the listing process more manageable for Jio Platforms. Following the Jio Platforms IPO, Reliance is reportedly planning to list Reliance Retail, potentially by 2028.
