Standard Nuclear, a producer of TRISO nuclear fuel, recently announced a successful Series A funding round, securing $140 million. This capital infusion is earmarked for expanding the company's fuel development and fabrication infrastructure, with a goal to increase annual TRISO production to over two metric tons across multiple sites by mid-2026. The funding round was led by Decisive Point and included new investors like Chevron Technology Ventures, StepStone Group, and XTX Ventures, as well as existing investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Welara, Fundomo, Washington Harbour Partners, and Crucible Capital.

The company's growth is driven by the burgeoning demand for electricity from AI data centers, which is spurring a "nuclear power gold rush." Standard Nuclear's TRISO fuel is particularly critical for next-generation reactors, and the company has already secured $100 million in non-binding sales for 2027. Its customers include Radiant Energy and Nano Nuclear Energy, with Standard Nuclear being the first company to receive authorization from the U.S. DOE to physically receive HALEU for advanced TRISO fuel production for Radiant Industries.

Standard Nuclear has achieved several key milestones in its first year, including being selected as a supplier for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Nuclear Energy's Fuel Line Pilot Program, and forming a joint venture with Framatome to supply commercial TRISO and advanced reactor products. Additionally, Standard Nuclear and Oklo Inc. have formed a strategic alliance to explore commercial collaboration on nuclear fuel recycling and advanced fuel manufacturing, which includes evaluating the use of U.S. surplus plutonium for advanced reactor fuel.
