American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is preparing for the 2026 World Cup by hosting a 39-day "Dream Fan Fest." This event series, spanning the eight World Cup match days at MetLife Stadium (referred to as New York New Jersey Stadium during the tournament), aims to attract over 1 million visitors to the region, with some estimates suggesting up to 2 million will pass through the mall itself.
The Dream Fan Fest includes numerous attractions and activities. Among them is the "Messi Experience," featuring nine installations and an interactive, life-sized AI-powered hologram of Lionel Messi, which opened in June following the first MetLife match. The mall also opened a soccer-themed Adidas store, the only one in the U.S., offering exclusive World Cup collections. Other events include live performances, concerts, post-match events at various venues within the mall, daily viewing parties of matches on mega screens, youth soccer clinics hosted by Red Bull New York, and pre-game parties with iHeartRadio and U.S. Soccer.
To accommodate the large influx of fans, American Dream has agreed to make at least 5,000 parking spots available for those driving to the matches, priced at $225 per spot, though this will be subject to dynamic pricing set by FIFA. The mall is directly connected to MetLife Stadium by pedestrian bridges, making it a convenient fan zone just a two-minute walk from the pitch. Admission to the Dream Fan Fest is free on non-match days, with standard American Dream parking rates applying then. On match days, the complex serves as FIFA's primary parking hub, and early arrival is highly recommended.
Cities like Philadelphia and Seattle are also preparing for the World Cup with their own fan experiences. Melissa Piccoli, Chief External Affairs Officer for Philadelphia Soccer 2026, is orchestrating partnerships to bring the World Cup to Philadelphia, including a Fan Fest at Lemon Hill. Mikaela Purvis, Chief Experience Officer for Seattle FIFA World Cup 26™, is focusing on events outside Lumen Field, such as watch parties, marches to matches, and engaging local businesses to ensure a welcoming environment for international visitors. FIFA Fan Festivals globally have welcomed over 40 million visitors over the years, highlighting the logistical complexity and planning required for these large-scale fan engagement platforms.
